After Time Warner's decision to adopt the Blue-Ray technology for the HD movie format, New Line is following the step. This is really a big win for the Blue-Ray.
However the HD-DVD player has been selling much better than the Blue-Ray players due to the lower price point. I guess as a consumer we'll just have to wait a bit longer before one of the two wins out.

On an update, Paramount is poised to drop its support of HD-DVD. This could be a kill on the HD-DVD and end the HD format war.

I, for one, am going to wait and see which format remains standing once the dust settles. I'm already not very happy about having to switch from analog TVs to digital ones, so having to wonder how the heck I'm going to watch movies once the DVD format goes the way of videocassettes is maddening. Are they ever going to make Blu-ray compatible with old DVDs so those older discs can be read?

Of course, being a subsidiary of Time Warner, New Line Cinema would, of course, have to go along. Question I have is, though, which way is 20th Century Fox leaning on the issue?

Since more than one-quarter of my DVDs happen to be from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, this would be the decisive deal-maker/deal-killer for me. I would hate to not have my Star Wars, Die Hard, or Aliens series on the format that would win the format wars.
