Maybe it's because I'm so used to online stores or review sites that have a separate category for War movies, but I'm really surprised to see that there's no such category here. Odd.

As a movie buff, I have watched many war-themed films and, although most of them are "combat films" that epitomize the term "War Movie," I've come to understand that the term encompasses many different aspects of war and its effects on people.

Currently, my Top 10 of Best War Movies looks like this:

1. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

2. Flags of Our Fathers/Lettters From Iwo Jima (two thematically linked films by the same director, Clint Eastwood; I'm counting them as one movie.)

3. Apocalypse Now (1979)

4. The Bridge Over the River Kwai (1957)

5. The Longest Day (1962)

6. A Bridge Too Far (1977)

7. Casablanca (1942)

8. Summer of '42 (1971)

9. Platoon (1986)

10. Black Hawk Down (2001)

Apocalyse Now is the greatest. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

I don't really have a list, but I do like war movies. I like watching documentaries too, because I know that Hollywood takes liberties with facts.

We just watched Flyboys last night and I enjoyed it. There are other great movies that have elements of war in them - The Sound of Music, for example.

I really like Das Boot as well. Kelly's Heroes is one of my faves. M*A*S*H with Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould--major classic war movie. Good Morning, Vietnam.

And some of the others already mentioned.
