People keep saying that no one besides Richard Pryor can beat Eddie Murphy when it comes to stand up comedy, but I think he has some fierce competition with Chris Rock. Anyone agree?

I suppose that if Pryor had not gotten ill and passed away, that bit of popular wisdom would still be true. Ol' Dickie was a true original and a sort-of comedic guru to Eddie; if the older comedian hadn't been there to set a precedent for the up-and-coming Murphy, there'd be no "Eddie Murphy" as we know hm.

Ditto for Rock. No Pryor, no Murphy...no Chris Rock.

I think each comedian has his charms, though I think Murphy isn't very wise about the movies he has been making lately. I loved him in Chicago, and if he hadn't made Norbert after that, he probably could have won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar last year.

I don't see this. I think Chris Rock would have done fine without Murphy's influence. I know Murphy did help him break into the business by giving him some bit roles, but Chris Rock would have made it regardless.
