Digital TV sets

As you may, or may not, know, in February 2009 all U.S. television stations will cease to broadcast on analog-technology means and switch over to digital. This was mandated by the U.S. Congress when it enacted the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Analog TV's will work after February 17 if owners buy converter boxes that will allow them to receive digital signals, but even though I'm not exactly "wealth unlimited" I decided it was a good time to buy a digital TV. I bought a Samsung LN-T2642H a few weeks ago, and so far, I love it.

Does anyone else have a digital TV? Big? Small? Plasma? LCD?

Cool beans. I would - personally - prefer a slightly larger TV than the one you bought, but LCDs usually last longer than plasmas and have no issues with glare.

Are you going to buy a new HD-DVD player or a Sony Blu-ray to go with it?

No, I am not getting either. I have problems with the format wars, and I don't want to start buying new movies on one format and finding out that other movies I want to get are only available in the competing one.

I also don't plan on upgrading to either HD-DVD or Blu-ray for that same reason. I don't have a huge DVD collection, but heck, it's not a small one, either, and I'd hate to buy two players just to cover all my bases.

This is interesting news about the digital conversion in 2009.

I think I'd be more inclined to put the money toward a new TV in my case.

I live in Canada, but I expect we'll be affected since so many US shows are aired on our networks, unless the networks convert the signal...

I have noticed that regular TV sets, at least at my local Wal-mart here in Canada, have been dropping in price like crazy. I wouldn't mind getting a regular TV for my bedroom even though I'm likely not to be able to watch cable shows after next February, but I can still hook up a VCR and DVD player and a game console.
